BRACKET SEMI-FINALS

(74) 1983 Miami - 22
(183) 1998 Arizona - 19
A fantastic Arizona team ran out of gas down the stretch against the National Champion Hurricanes. Chris McAlister picked off two passes and returned one of them for a touchdown, but the quarterback shuffling between Ortege Jenkins and Kevin Smith that worked so well most of the '98 season prevented the Wildcats from ever establishing any momentum offensively.

(202) 1985 Texas A&M - 21
(55) 1992 Florida State - 28
Florida State was able to corral A&M quarterback Kevin Murray most of the game while their offense strategically pierced Johnny Holland and the Wrecking Crew with enough big plays to survive and advance.

BRACKET FINAL

(74) 1983 Miami - 20
(55) 1992 Florida State - 24
The Bracket 55 Final featured yet another chapter in the epic Florida State/Miami rivalry.

Miami jumped out to a fast start, giving Seminoles flashbacks to all the losses they have suffered to the Hurricanes over the years. Quarterback Bernie Kosar completed 3-0f-4 passes on an opening drive that culminated in an Albert Bentley 4-yard touchdown run. Then after a Jack Fernandez interception, Kosar threw a touchdown pass to Eddie Brown to put the 'Canes up 14-0.

Kevin Fagan and the formidable Miami front completely erased Tiger McMillon and the FSU running game. For the game, the Seminoles only rushed for 13 yards. But in the second half Charlie Ward decided to put the entire offense on his back and carry them to the finish line.

Ward threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter to tie the game up at 17-17. The second TD pass came on a 50-yard bomb to Kez McKorvey that gave FSU some momentum heading into the final quarter.

Miami wouldn't go away, though as Kosar drove the Hurricanes down the field to regain the lead. Kosar converted a big third-and-eleven play when he avoided the rush of Toddrick McIntosh and tight end Glenn Dennison all alone in the middle of the field for a big 23-yard gain. Derrick Brooks and Marvin Jones held the line against Bently and forced Miami to kick a field goal.

With time winding down, Ward came up big yet again with another big play, this time on a 34-yard pass to Sean Jackson out of the backfield that finally gave the 'Noles the lead - a lead they never relinquished.

1992 Florida State (#55 overall seed) advances to the Bracket of Champions. The Seminoles will face the winner of Bracket 10 in the first round.
