BRACKET FINAL

(25) 1977 Penn State - 27
(104) 1996 Arizona State - 26
Jake Plummer and the Sun Devils came out of nowhere in the 1996 season to make a run at the national title. Their miracle season came up just short as they lost to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. And their run in The Greatest Tournament of All Time comes to an end here against the '77 Nittany Lions.

An underrated defense led the Sun Devils in the first half with Derrick Rogers and Albrey Battle picking up sacks on Penn State quarterback Chuck Fusina. Linebacker Pat Tillman cleaned up the rest, holding fullback Pat Suhey and the PSU rushing attack to just 42 yards over the first two quarters.

But it took too long for the ASU offense to click. Plummer and go-to wideout Keith Poole weren't on the same page all day. Running back Terry Battle had a tough go against a defensive line that featured standouts Bruce Clark and Matt Millen.

Before Bruce Snyder's '96 Sun Devils go, we'll take a look back at one of the memorable moments from that thrilling season.

1977 Penn State (#25 overall seed) advances to the Bracket of Champions. The Nittany Lions will face the winner of Bracket 40 in the first round.
