Bear Bryant's Crimson Tide eliminated Dick Tomey's Rainbow Warriors in this third round matchup. Marty Lyons and the Alabama defense shut down Hawaii tailback Gary Allen, forcing QB Tim Lyons to throw the ball more than he was used to.

(651) 1982 North Carolina - 26
(139) 1993 Ohio State - 29 (2 OT)
Ohio State won this third round game in double overtime thanks to the performance of tailback Raymont Harris. Harris carried the ball 32 times for 159 yards and a touchdown for the Buckeyes against a solid Tar Heel defense led by DL William Fuller. Defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson came up big once again for Ohio State, harassing UNC QB Scott Stankavage all day. His sack in the second overtime forced the Tar Heels to kick a field goal, and then Butler By'not'e answered with a 4-yard touchdown plunge for the game winner.

(267) 1996 Penn State - 40 (3 OT)
The second overtime game of the bracket ended in thrilling fashion. In the third overtime, safety Kim Herring picked up a Thomas Lott fumble and returned it 76 yards for the game winning touchdown, killing Sooner Magic. Curtis Enis ran for 112 yards on 31 carries for the Nittany Lions. Elvis Peacock ran for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Sooners.

(11) 1995 Nebraska - 45
The 1995 Cornhuskers continued their romp through Bracket 11. Nebraska topped the 40-point mark for the third game in a row. Lawrence Phillips ran for 164 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Damon Benning added 101 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, the Blackshirts swarmed Miami(OH) running back Deland McCullough. Christian Peter collapsed the offensive line time after time, and often got to QB Sam Ricketts before he could even make the handoff.
