Round 2
(seed) year school - score

(30) 1994 Nebraska - 33
(1054) 1991 Fresno State - 19
Lawrence Phillips ran for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns as Nebraska trounced Fresno State. Rush ends Donta Jones and Dwayne Harris had 2 sacks apiece of QB Mark Barsotti. Brook Berringer, playing in place of an injured Tommie Frazier (blood clot), threw for 201 yards and 2 touchdowns.

(542) 1978 Florida State - 24
(483) 1980 Furman - 20
Furman stayed in this game with a strong running game, but WR Jackie Flowers caught 2 touchdown passes for Florida State in the victory. Senior tailback gave way to Stanford Jennings, who had the hot hand in the second half. Jennings returned a kick for touchdown in the second half in addition to 62 rushing yards, but it wasn't enough.

(286) 1995 Kansas State - 29
(739) 1983 Oklahoma - 17
Bill Snyder got the best of Barry Switzer in this matchup of old Big 8 rivals. Sooner back Spencer Tillman out-rushed Wildcat counterparts Eric Hickson and Mike Lawrence, but Matt Miller was on target throwing the ball for Kansas State to receivers Kevin Lockett and Mitch Running.

(1251) 1978 Louisville - 20
(227) 2002 Iowa - 32
Iowa QB Brad Banks sliced up the Louisville defense to the tune of 345 total yards of offense. On the other side of the ball, Matt Roth, Bob Sanders and the rest of the Hawkeye defense shut down Louisville running back Nathan Poole.

(158) 2007 Georgia - 24
(1182) 1979 LSU - 17
A controversial facemask call against the LSU defense late in the fourth quarter kept a Georgia drive alive. Knowshon Moreno eventually finished the drive off with a game-winning 24-yard touchdown run, sending Mark Richt and the Bulldogs to the Round of 512.

(670) 2002 Pittsburgh - 17
(355) 1981 Alabama - 21
Bear Bryant's secondary, featuring All American safety Tommy Wilcox and star cornerback Jeremiah Castille, bracketed Pitt wideout Larry Fitzgerald - and it actually worked! QB Rod Rutherford only threw one pass Fitzgerald's way in the first half, which gave the Crimson Tide all the momentum and a 14-3 lead at halftime. In the second half it was head coach Walt Harris taking Fitzgerald out of the game. Harris called RB Brandon Miree's number four straight times inside the 5-yard line in the fourth quarter, and the Alabama defense held Pitt out of the end zone.

(414) 1997 LSU - 31
(611) 1998 Miami - 27
There were some great running backs in this game as the two teams combined for 457 rushing yards. Miami back Edgerrin James topped the 100-yard mark against a good LSU defense. Miami also had Najeh Davenport on the roster. For LSU, Kevin Faulk ran well for LSU, but it was Cecil "The Diesel" Collins who led the Tigers in rushing with 98 yards on just 6 carries. Rondell Mealy added 45 yards for the Tigers in the victory.

(926) 1988 UTEP - 22
(99) 2003 USC - 36
The explosive USC passing game (QB Matt Leinart, WRs Mike Williams & Keary Colbert) was on display against defensively-challenged UTEP. Leinart threw for 302 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Trojans victory. For UTEP, QB Pat Hegarty was great between the 20 yard lines, but the Miners offense sputtered in the red zone. That left the door open for the great Chris Jacke, who kicked five field goals.
