RESULTS - BRACKET 18
Round 2
(seed) year school - score

(18) 1994 Penn State - 37
(1007) 2003 Auburn - 19
Auburn RB Carnell "Cadillac" Williams busted an 80-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game, putting a temporary scare in one of the top seeds in the tournament. But the Penn State defense settled down and QB Kerry Collins and TE Kyle Brady started picking apart a talented Auburn defense highlighted by LB Karlos Dansby.

(530) 1998 Miami (Ohio) - 17
(495) 2003 Maryland - 21
QB Scott McBrien and the Maryland offense only managed 14 points in the game, but the Terp defense came up big time. Led by linebackers Leroy Ambush and Shawn Merriman, Maryland held Miami's ultra-productive RB Travis Prentice to just 56 yards on 21 carries.

(274) 1982 Pittsburgh - 17
(751) 2000 TCU - 18
Defensive end Aaron Schobel and linebacker Shannon Brazzell led a purple assault on Pitt quarterback Dan Marino, sacking the senior an amazing 6 times on the day. Offensively, RB LaDainian Tomlinson didn't put up his usual eye-popping numbers, but he kept the chains moving and the clock running as TCU pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the second round.

(786) 1980 SMU - 19
(239) 2007 Kansas - 30
SMU has talent, but the best Kansas team in the bracket had the superior game plan in this second round matchup. The SMU defensive line, highlighted by record setting shot-putter Michael Carter, never even sniffed diminutive Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing. Even Pony running backs Eric Dickerson and Craig James had off days, combining for just 87 yards rushing. Jayhawk linebackers Joe Mortenson, James Holt, and Mike Rivera were all over the field in shutting down the Pony Express.

(146) 2003 Ohio State - 31
(1170) 2007 Oklahoma State - 21
A high-powered Oklahoma State offense met their match in the 2003 Ohio State Buckeyes. Defensive end Will Smith harrassed QB Zac Robinson all day (3 sacks), and defensive backs Dustin Fox, Chris Gamble, and Will allen blanketed receivers Adarius Bowman, Dez Bryant, and tight end Brandon Pettigrew. Ohio State quarterback Craig Krenzel on the other hand had plenty of time to throw, and used that time to pick apart the porous Cowboy defense. Receivers Michael Jenkins and Santonio Holmes each had over 100 yards and a touchdown, and tight end Ben Hartsock added a touchdown of his own.

(658) 1990 Oklahoma - 29
(367) 2005 Oregon - 24
This was a game that was ultimately decided by toughness. Oklahoma had it and Oregon didn't. The finesse Duck offense, led by QB Kellen Clemens, got hammered repeatedly by a physical Oklahoma defense. Offensively, the Sooners ground game exemplified toughness as well, as big backs Dewell Brewer and Kenyon Rasheed combined for 203 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns against a soft Oregon defense. Touted DT Haloti Ngata was nowhere to be found, posting just one tackle in a matchup many projected he would control.

(402) 1990 Michigan - 23
(623) 1995 Texas A&M - 20
There was some impressive skill talent on display in this ballgame (Michigan WR Desmond Howard, A&M RB Leland McElroy), but ultimately it was A&M QB Corey Pullig's ineptitude throwing the football that decided the game. Late in the third quarter, Pullig tried to force a throw to WR Albert Connell in double coverage, but Lance Dottin picked it off and took it back for a touchdown, giving Michigan a 23-13 lead that they never relinquished.

(914) 1999 Arkansas - 20
(111) 2000 Oregon State - 28
This Oregon State team is actually really good. Even though quarterback Jonathan Smith stands only about 5-foot-9, he's got heart and, more importantly, great receivers. Future Cincinnati Bengal teammates Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh were also together in Corvalis for the 2000 season, and they gave Smith plenty of reason to throw the ball. But it was the Beaver defense that rose to the occasion here in this second round matchup. Defensive end DeLawrence Grant sacked Arkansas quarterback Clint Stoerner 3 times, while DT Eric Manning and LB Richard Seigler teamed up to slow down talented freshman tailback Cedric Cobbs.

Round of 512 Matchups:
(18) 1994 Penn State vs (495) 2003 Maryland
(239) 2007 Kansas vs (751) 2000 TCU
(146) 2003 Ohio State vs (658) 1990 Oklahoma
(111) 2000 Oregon State vs (402) 1990 Michigan
