RESULTS - BRACKET 46
Round 1
(seed) year school - score

(46) 1996 Florida State - 40
(2003) 1979 Minnesota - 13
DEs Peter Boulware and Reinard Wilson racked up 2 sacks apiece as the Seminoles roll.

(979) 2000 East Carolina - 24
(1070) 2004 Georgia Tech - 20
QB David Garrard had his way with a talented Ramblin' Wreck defense, and threaded the needle between safeties James Butler and Dawan Landry on this game winning touchdown pass.

(558) 1986 Clemson - 30
(1491) 1980 Colorado State - 13
Clemson made quick work of this contest. RB Terrence Flagler topped the century mark on the ground in the first half and Ram QB Steve Fairchild was never able to get in a rhythm.

(467) 1993 Boston College - 29
(1582) 1979 Georgia - 16
No problems for BC here in this matchup of heavyweight coaches where Tom Coughlin got the best of Vince Dooley. QB Glenn Foley found TE Pete Mitchell on a pair of touchdowns, one on a well-executed play fake.

(302) 1985 Bowling Green - 32
(1747) 1977 Boston College - 17
Brian McClure out-passes Ken Smith as Bowling Green cruises past BC.

(723) 2002 Florida - 23
(1326) 1997 Oklahoma State - 22
In one of the best first round games of Bracket 46, Rex Grossman led Florida down the field to set up the game winning field goal as time expired. R.W. McQuarters had a pick-six early in the game to set the tempo, and TE Alonzo Mayes caught a touchdown pass, but the Tony Lindsay-led option attack couldn't ever get enough momentum going against DT Ian Scott and the Gator defnse.

(814) 2001 North Carolina - 27
(1235) 1999 Colorado - 24
Julius Peppers finally got to QB Mike Moschetti on the last play of the game, sacking Colorado's chances of advancing. LB Jashon Sykes led the way defensively for the Buffs, but his 14 tackles weren't enough.

(211) 2007 West Virginia - 40
(1838) 1986 Syracuse - 14
Pat White and the Mountaineers had no problem eliminating Don McPherson and Syracuse in this first round matchup.

(174) 1979 Arkansas - 26
(1875) 1978 Cincinnati - 13
Lou Holtz allowed his offensive line to do the heavy lifting in this Arkansas win. The Hogs dominated time of possession as they kept potent Cincy RB Allen Harvin off the field.

(851) 1981 UCLA - 26
(1198) 2007 Troy - 23
UCLA thought they were playing the Men of Troy from across the city for a while. QB Omar Haugabook had a big first half for Troy, putting up 231 yards of total offense prior to halftime. But the Bruins settled down in the second half and pulled of a hard fought victory.

(686) 1990 USC - 26
(1363) 1995 Georgia - 19
Ray Goff's offense had a hard time getting going, despite the all purpose threat known as Hines Ward. QB Todd Marinovich threw a touchdown pass with 16 seconds left to win the game for USC.

(339) 1993 Tennessee - 46
(1710) 2001 Louisiana Tech - 19
Heath Shuler and Charlier Garner had no problem putting points on the board, and the Vols defense managed to keep Louisiana Tech's potent passing game (QB Luke McCown & WRs Delwyn Daigre, John Simon, and D.J. Curry) to just one touchdown.

(430) 2007 Boston College - 27
(1619) 2000 UNLV - 20
The BC defense forced UNLV QB Jason Thomas into several mistakes, but he managed to connect with WR Nate Turner for a late TD to keep the score respectable.

(595) 1994 Virginia - 28
(1454) 2005 Fresno State - 23
Two high scoring offenses were held in check by solid defenses. Virginia's linebacking corps of Jamie Sharper and James Farrior were able to keep RB Wendell Mathis in front of them (for the most part), while Fresno's Tyler Clutts and Garrett McIntyre mustered a consistent pass rush that kept QB Mike Groh from going through all his reads.

(942) 1986 Fresno State - 30
(1107) 2005 Missouri - 23
Missouri thought they were ready for this tournament, but it turned out Jim Sweeney had his Fresno State Bulldogs even more prepared than the Tigers. Sweeney's defense had a tough time stopping Mizzou's Brad Smith between the 20s, but locked down in the red zone to force four field goal attempts.

(83) 2008 Utah - 38
(1966) 1997 Northwestern - 13
The Utes proved their win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl was no fluke as they rolled over Gary Barnett's Wildcats on their way to a second round matchup with 1986 Fresno State.
