McQuarters had a pick-six early in the game to set the tempo, and TE Alonzo Mayes caught a touchdown pass, but the Tony Lindsay-led option attack couldn't ever get enough momentum going against DT Ian Scott and the Gator defnse.

Julius Peppers finally got to QB Mike Moschetti on the last play of the game, sacking Colorado's chances of advancing. LB Jashon Sykes led the way defensively for the Buffs, but his 14 tackles weren't enough.

Virginia's linebacking corps of Jamie Sharper and James Farrior were able to keep RB Wendell Mathis in front of them (for the most part), while Fresno's Tyler Clutts and Garrett McIntyre mustered a consistent pass rush that kept QB Mike Groh from going through all his reads.
